For whatever reason, Ive become very interested in film graphics and cinematography lately. Im not exactly sure why, but there is something beautiful about a film that is finished and wrapped up in a nice package complete with jaw dropping scenery an interesting storyline and decent actors.
Ive been involved with graphic and web design, virtual worlds, print design and the like, but lately the film field has interested me quite a bit. I have also found out that using film elements can be implemented into web design and other types of design. Look for Pineal Media to explore this avenue whenever we get up and kickin again!
Ill introduce you to the following film techniques that have caught my eye for the past month. Digital matte painting and Scratchbuilding. Digital matte painting is definitely the coolest out of both of them. Its basically when you create real life backdrops to be utilized as a film backslot. Ive browsed some web forums on this subject to get a feel of whats going on in this field and much to my amazement, a lot of freelance designers who matte paint have worked for backslots on films like Children of Men, The Chronicles of Narnia, 300. The list went on an on as far as Hollywood blockbusters go! Pretty inspiring stuff, I would say.
